Campfires are a chance for all of our community to gather together to share ideas around pedagogy and to hear and learn from a diverse range of voices. They are design to spark imagination, create connection and energise your whole being. We often invite in guest speakers to broaden our perspective. Our intention is to plant seeds of wonderment and for you to leave more curious than when you started.

Campfires run throughout the year on Zoom. We vary time zones so no matter where you are in the world, you can join in. Campfires tend to last between 40-60 minutes, depending on the discussion focus. If you can’t make a Campfire, don’t worry, they are all recorded and shared in the Campfire section of our community. You can share your thinking and reflections via comments in the posts and tag and connect with fellow community members before, during and after the gatherings.

Who is this for?

All educators benefit from our Campfire get togethers. We discuss and learn from diverse topics from cultivating curiosity to positive and impactful use of tech to hearing from students about how we can improve education to meet their needs. If you love to feel energised, to discuss what really matters to inspire your students and to feel connected with enthusiastic like-minds, this is the place for you.

How can you use it?

Use Campfires to infuse your practice with new ideas, share thinking and strategies with your teams, share your own practice and gain feedback and learn from diverse educators across the globe.

Campfires 2024

Our 2024 Campfires are focusing on student voice. How much time do we make to really hear from our students and respond mindfully and purposefully to their ideas and needs? We ask students from a range of backgrounds and experiences these key questions:

  • What’s working for you in education?
  • What could we do more of/do better?
  • What should be at the heart of education?
  • How can you imagine education at its best?

Over the course of the year, we will gain perspective from a range of student voices which will enable us to pull out key themes and build empathy with young people’s experiences in school.

These Campfires are run by Learning Pioneer Advocate, Diksha Kharbanda, in collaboration with our Community Designer, Becky Carlzon.

Campfire 1

Campfire with Libby Scott

What’s your story?

17-year-old Libby is the author of several best-selling books. Having been diagnosed with autism, she brings a unique perspective as to how education could be better shaped to nourish and value neuro-diversity. This moving, clear and impactful Campfire really sharpened our focus on simple actions we can take for more inclusive learning environments.

Campfire 2

Sandringham pupils

Our second Campfire will be with the Learning Advocates at Sandringham School in Newham, London. The Learning Advocates are a mix of pupils aged 8-11 who lead on embedding the Learning Power Approach at Sandringham School. This incredible group of students have previously curated questions for and interview Professor Guy Claxton (this interview is also available to you when you sign up to our “Dipping your Toes in” package). We can’t wait to hear from their perspectives!

Campfire 3 - 6

TBA

We will plan interim Campfires to discuss the implications of what students are sharing and how we can put their ideas into practice.

Campfires 2022/23

Creativity and LPA focus

Our 2023 webinars focused on amplifying our personal growth. Learning from business leaders, world-renowned personal growth specialists and philosophers, we pulled together thinking in these key areas:

Cultivating Creativity

Our community members discuss divergent and convergent thinking, reimagining assessment for creativity, children understanding themselves as creative learners and the skills that lead to creativity.

Story-telling and creativity

Lead thinker, Hywel Roberts, joins us to explore how story-telling can spark creativity. We explore “Learnish” for creativity and how story-telling can open up the curriculum

Tech and creativity

The “Let’s Flip” Team in Singapore join us to explore how tech can fuel student agency and creativity

How are we developing Learning Habits over time?

Our community explore how we can develop Learning Habits over time with our students in and as part of every lesson.

How are we cultivating curiosity?

With members from the PressPlay community, we collectively explore ways to cultivate curiosity in the ways we approach teaching and learning.

Who are your hosts?

Diksha Kharbanda

As a child playing pretending to be teacher was my favourite pastime and now it feels I am living my childhood dream. I pursued my post graduation in Education. I found immense joy in listening and observing children as they embark on their playful learning journeys. My experience as a preschool teacher inspired me to extend in exploring designing learning beyond the classroom walls. In this journey, I am interested in listening to stories and experiences of teachers, students, and parents to understand different perspectives and imagine education for all.
