Wellbeing in the Primary Classroom
Sustain yourself and your students with practical tools for emotional and mental wellbeing.
Putting wellbeing at the heart of teaching
Wellbeing isn’t an “extra” — it’s a foundation for how we show up, how students learn and how classrooms function. This course is a practical, research-informed guide to building a culture of wellbeing in your classroom and school.
Together, we explore small, manageable shifts that support both student and teacher wellbeing. Whether you're navigating anxiety in your class, feeling the pressure of performance, or simply wanting to reconnect with what matters most, this course supports you to embed wellbeing in your teaching — in ways that feel real, sustainable and human.
Why this course matters
When children feel calm, safe and supported, their capacity to learn expands. But wellbeing isn’t just about yoga in the staffroom or circle time on a Friday. It’s about creating habits, routines and cultures that support emotional health — for everyone in the classroom.
This course helps you embed those habits into everyday practice. You’ll explore tools for managing transitions, promoting emotional literacy, and noticing when needs arise — both in yourself and your students. With guidance from Adrian Bethune and Becky Carlzon, you'll reflect on how wellbeing shows up (or doesn’t) in your daily routines — and learn how to strengthen it, one small action at a time.

Who this course is for
This course is ideal if you are:
- A teacher looking for simple, research-based wellbeing practices
- A school leader aiming to create more sustainable staff cultures
- An educator curious about how wellbeing links to behaviour and engagement

Meet your guides

Adrian Bethune
Adrian is a primary teacher, author of Wellbeing in the Primary Classroom, and a leading advocate for mental health in education. His work focuses on realistic, research-backed practices that improve teacher and student wellbeing — without adding more to your plate.

Becky Carlzon
Becky supports educators to bring intention and reflection into their daily practice. In this course, she partners with Adrian to share examples, hold space for reflection, and explore how wellbeing sits at the core of how we relate, plan, and teach.
What you’ll explore
Across twelve modules, you’ll explore what wellbeing looks like in practice — beyond buzzwords or add-ons. You’ll consider both proactive and responsive strategies, from classroom design to communication and personal reflection.
You’ll explore:
The science of wellbeing and how it relates to learning
Emotional regulation and co-regulation tools
How to create psychologically safe classroom environments
Daily wellbeing habits and micro-practices
Strengths-based approaches to behaviour and feedback
Reflecting on your own wellbeing as a teacher
What makes this course different
This isn’t a course about doing more — it’s about doing what matters, more intentionally. Adrian and Becky bring a calm, grounded tone to the work, helping you cut through the noise and return to what supports both learning and wellbeing.
Instead of offering quick fixes, the course invites you to reflect on your current practice and gently layer in small shifts that can have a lasting impact. It acknowledges the complexity and pressure of school life — and offers a hopeful, human-centred path forward.
The result is a more sustainable approach to teaching, where wellbeing isn’t another initiative, but part of your daily rhythm.
